A day not for the faint hearted, I arrived at the clubhouse at 9.50am. The juniors were there already with Kate having braved the wind through from Nairn, She told me she was lucky to be in forres as the wind was that strong she nearly ended up in Elgin.
It was decided that the route would take us up through Darnaway and over to the Nairn Grantown road, hopefully this would keep us out of the wind and avoid the showers. Riding on the front with Martin we set a reasonable pace and soon reached the top of Moyness where a quick shelter in a bus stop proved useful to avoid a downpour, it was quite apparent that Cameron and Kate were not phased by the wind so off we set again at a nice easy pace and the Nairn road was soon reached. A quick debate followed and it was decided to head down to Broadley for Coffee.
Down the road to Nairn and it was almost too windy to cycle at times, having to pedal down the Hills on to Broadley and spirits were raised with the knowledge that the hard work had been done.
Always a great welcome at Broadley, Green Tea and a Scone was the order of the day (Alan dont tell peter about the scone) Cameron looking well chuffed with 2 bits of Caramel Shortcake - he certainly had earned it.
We left Broadley for the run back to Forres, Nairn always a busy and hazardous place for cyclists however Kate still found time for some Gymnastics! not bad with 30 odd miles in the legs.
Off to Forres and we hardly had to pedal on the road down past Brodie however Cyclo Cross skills were needed as the road was blocked by a fallen tree. Cameron cleared it in one, the rest of us scrambled over it to carry on back to Forres.
Sunshine as we rolled into Forres, with a good 35 miles in the legs, we all agreed it had been a challenge, Kate was the star of the show having cycled through from Nairn to give her 46 miles - well done indeed.
Due to demand it was decided that a junior run would go ahead on a weekly basis - for details log onto the forum on Thurs.
Happy Cycling
