On Friday Alan and myself were discussing the Sat run and were both wondering if there would be anyone there and if the weather might spoil things.
Sat morning arrived and weather looked favourable so off I set to the Club house where there were lots of cyclists, mostly all in club colours with juniors Lewis, Cameron, and Jamie chomping at the bit to get going.
We knew the weather was going to be okay as we were assured by our professional Cross Country runner and part time weather reporter that it would be ok. (good to see you out Mr Norrie, hopefully not a one off).
Big Al said it would be Lossie as he and Peter had discovered a new cake shop, a good job we have these food critics, it saves us cyclists a lot of hard work.
Anyway out to Lossie ,biting hard wind made the going tough or was it the lack of gears! We passed Dave H on his way to work, you could tell he was wishing he was in our peleton, regular changes of leaders and we were soon down in Lossie at the new cake shop - it didnt dissapoint, the chocolate cake was superb and coffee excellent.
Then it sudenly struck me I would have to get back up the hill (very steep hill) from the cafe loaded with chocolate cake and with the extra stone of balast and one gear this could be a problem. I noticed the young guns were having a good laugh to themselves about this - revenge will be mine!
Once away from Lossie the pack rolled along with the wind on our tails, thinking I would be clever I started to urge Peter to get in a higher gear, should have kept my mouth shut as I went quickly to the back of the pack.
By the time we were half way back Lewis Strongman Lyall was on the front with Peter and the speed was steady back to Forres where we had a wee parade through the Street before returning to the Clubhouse Where Jamie's mum was waiting - she had a look in her eye that said she would liked to have been out there to.
Cameron managed to invent flat pack sunglasses and I gather Ikea are placing an order.
8 cyclists out so not bad, all enjoyed - roll on next week
And remember to be a proper cyclist you take bike bits out of skips.
Happy pedalling
