Recent computer hacking in area

With the Elgin site being hacked, I wonder if the tale my wife just told me could be related. She received an e-mail saying that a known member of another cycling club(who also was on the Elgin forum) was stuck in South Africa in a serious predicament with no money to get home. There was then a link to send money.Obviously she did not click the link to the e-mail but it just goes to show the sh*t that goes on.
